It is not the individual but the nation, which matters. It is impossible for an individual to act without the support of the government. The blue print for nukes is not a receipe like "Gajar ka halwa" which a bunch of scientists can try to cookup. It needs a very high level cooperation and laboratories.
India has maintained it's sovereignity all along and it is impossible for US to play any nonsense with a big nation like India or China. Pakistan's poliitcians and leaders have simply let down their hero to save their back. But he is still a great hero for the common man on the street.
Which country will give up their territorial integrity?. Nuke definitely is the best deterrant.

How can you say 'honour for his sacrifices' when he has made millions of dollars for his own personal gain + all the while making the world a less safe place. The man should be a jail cell - not honoured. ANY person who peddles nukes should be stopped - all the existing nukes we have now need to be destroyed. This is all madness.

Pakistan offered supply of centrifuges for uranium enrichment in exchange for missile technology from North korea. Also blue prints are not of Dr.khan's own design. he stole it from the URENCO consortium in Europe.
So missile technology is not for the home use of Dr.khan. So pakistan also with Dr.Khan throughout all these deals. So When a French cargo ship was intercepted in the Suez Canal in 2002 its cargo revealed 200 metric tons of German-made aluminium tubing secretly intended for North Korea.
Now when everybody including USA Come to know about this deal Pakistan shown its original color by putting Dr.Khan in House Arrest.
So we can not compare Great scientist and honest person like Dr.A.P.J.Abdul kalam with all these chamaleons.

As you have rightly put, Dr. Khan's credentials are doubtful, not only for selling, secrets to Iran & N.Korea, but also, for stealing blue prints. Any country's people would have supported him, if efforts have been genuine, like our scientists.
