My answer is that "life itself it's easy, we humans complicate it". It is obvious that our thoughts contribute to the whole package, but as you said we are more then our thoughts, we have personalities in which our thoughts are just a little part from the big package.

You have been thinking about this??
Therefore you have come to a conclusion!
Which means you have ended all possibilities.
You think we are spirit?
Other than through, the thinking how have you come to know what you say?
We are what we identify with!
In your case your thoughts obviously.
So what is the question?

we have 4 aspects
mental, emotional, physical and spiritual.
in order to lead a balanced life we need to take care of each of these on an equal basis.
most of our thoughts begin with a feeling. when you have supper, you begin by feeling hunger, or wanting to avoid that hunger.
when you see a mother with her new born baby, you get a feeling of wanting one of your own. wanting to feel that joy.
when you want your coffee in the morning. it starts with that desire.
but you need one with the other. so i wouldn't say one is lower level. maybe inner level...if you can call it that. the thought brings it further to an action or reaction. to the physical aspect. bringing it from feeling, thought, action. through all this is spirit which is what tells you inside if this is right or not. most people don't pay much attention to their spirits that they know about. that spirit inside is what guides you and tells you what is right and wrong. cause its coming from a higher power. when you wrong someone or hurt their feelings. you know its wrong and felt it from the begining. how you chose to react from getting that intuition is up to you.
all 4 aspects need to be cared for equaly to live a balanced life and to feel centered

for example... your little child is annoying, stubborn, wouldn't eat anything but candy and he really wants one but u can't give it to him and he crawls on the floor, beating the ground with his fists and then starts crying! and then u are thinking, very fast scenario crosses ur mind, like u could grab him and throw him out that window! of course u don't do that, was just a fraction-of-a-second taught, and then u stop and wonder, are u really a bad mother, is anybody else ever thinking about doing such a horrible thing?
so... no! we cannot be what we think! there is a huge step from thinking to actually doing what u think, and I also think people are what they do, a lot more than they are what they think!

The saying is WE ARE WHAT WE EAT - or alternatively I THINK THEREFORE I AM.
Still, to answer your question, we are not what we think. We do what we have to, to be who we are, but we are also not necessarily what we do. So what are we? A complex combination of thought, feelings, emotion and practice/ behaviour and attitute, tied into relaitonships with others like us whose responses can be different to ours. Our emotions are recognised by our thoughts to the point that they trigger our reactions and behaviour.

No i don't agree that we are what we think. We are totally different in different situations. When some emergency occurs we do things which we have never dreamed of. In some situation we behave in such a manner that after the moment passes we use to think was this really me, who did so. So, our self are unknown to our self

I think we are what we do.
You can think about something all day and "feel" about it as long as you like, but when we have to actually do things, that is when we find out about ourselves.
Sometimes our own actions surprise us.
It's what you do in life that matters, not what you think or feel.

What about people who 'think' about helping in their community but don't do it, while someone else 'thinks and does' help out in their community? There is no 'action' component to this statement; which is why I think its full of fluff.

I agree. We are more than what we think. We are a combination of thoughts, feelings, behaviours & actions, experience, education, dreams and aspirations. You are what you think, feel and do.

My opinion is that we are what we do. We all can have brave and noble thoughts but if we don't act on that it's pretty much useless.
