I was checking-out of a motel. Turned on the news and saw, what I thought to be a rehearsal or practice emergency response. The first plane had hit minutes earlier. It didn't take long to figure out that this was REAL. . ...........then.....the second plane hit. .. silence. . . . .. . . I was in shock !!!

Where were you ?

Sweet pea - That was an honest answer. You have my respect. give yourself credit for 'waking up' and not 'sheltering' yourself in denial.

I was home preparing to go to an appiontment.
I distinctly recall thinking about turning on the television (unusual for me then) but I chose not to.
I got into my car for a 25 minute drive and was listening to Howard Stern, it took me a few minutes to figure out that he was serious.
I went to the Dr. and we both mentioned it ....then sat there saying nothing. Finally she said " I am quite distracted" I said "me too" and so I left.
I feel foolish because I continued with my day and then drove 35 minutes more to the college to get my books. The whole place was shut down and people looked at me like I was crazy for being there.
Stern stayed on the radio.I drove home and knew that If I had turned on the t.v, I would have seen it happening real time and that I may have understood th magnitude of what was happening.
I felt ashamed when my child got off the but 10 minutes later when I found out that many people had picked up their children.
I realize how ignorant I was, self-centered, unrealistic, unaware, and how television and movies had distorted my reality. We live in New England, but not in New York. I still wonder how my day would have been if I had turned on the television.

I was on a diving trip in Phuket Thailand. It was 8.30 pm and I had just turned on the TV to see CNBC to see how the stock market was going to open. The announcer said a plane had hit one of the WTC towers. Like most folks, I figured it was a Piper Cub or some freak accident. Then the second plane hit... Truly the Day The World Changed Forever. I was up all night, watching in horror.

I was at school in 8th grade. I remember a lot of kids being taken out by their parents and not knowing why. After recess (yes, I still had recess in 8th grade!) they brought us all into the gym and said that "Something happened at the WTC" and nothing else. Mind you, at the time my Dad worked down the street from the WTC so I was a bit concerned. The school went as far as to disconnect the internet so we wouldn't look up what was going on.

When I got home from school I turned on the news and called my dad; he didn't answer his phone. My mom calmed my nerves and said that he was walking up Manhattan away from Ground Zero and would be home later. He had seen the second tower get hit from the street. I have never been more relieved to see me father then when he got home that night.

My heart still goes out to those courageous Americans whose lives were touched by this Earth - shattering event!!!
My little girl was a toddler asleep in my arms , We had the TV on Mute when the telephone rang ! My friend just said turn on your TV , any channel !! The ensuing broadcast about the 9/11 bombing left me speechless. The destruction and carnage was horrific. To have ruined all of those innocent lives just to illustrate a point is PURE evil. I feel for anyone that lost a family member that dark September day!!

I was in a motel in St. Louis Missouri. It was just across the road from the airport and Scott AFB. It was quite a sight to see all the fighters going out. Then when they grounded all flights the airport was packed full of planes. They were parked everwhere. When I went down for breakfast they did not know about it. Alot of travelers didnt think they would ground all planes so they went to the airport. They were back in a few hours trying to get rooms.

I was at a public library taking computer courses. We saw the first plane hit the Tower and we thought it was an accident. When the second plane hit, we all cried, scream and thought it was the end of the world. Minutes later, the towers collapsed and the Library was closed immediately. We ran to our cars and got our children out of school.

I was at work..heard radio and we scrambled and hooked up a TV and watched as I finally realized why I lost the call I was on. (Was testing a DS1 with a Verizon tech in the World Trade Center Central Office).
Switches were tied up so could not get thru to my friends in NJ who worked in Manhattan, could not get ahold of family.
Not long after I was told to get out of town as Boston was told everyone who could was supposed to leave.
Took awhile to get home and was in car with 4 other people and you could have heard a pin drop.
Got home and went to the flag pole on island next to my house..lowered the flag to half mast and tied it off. Sat on grass wondering how my parents were gonna celebrate their anniversary after that morning.

jad D:: august 11 would be *8*/11/01 so would have been one month prior to SEPTEMBER 11th 2001

My living room, watching Good Morning America. It had ended, then Diane Sawyer came back to talk about the crash against the first tower, when the second one happened live on camera.

My children had just left for school, and my little one had nightmares that night.
