Look at these pics carefully. Im a resident of new orleans and i strongly feel that the reason so little has been done to this city is mainly because of race. people view the city as nothing but blacks. and although im white, i do believe that our goverment moves slower when black people need things. i lost everthing in the storm also. but does this look like progress to you? THESE PICS WERE TOOK A YEAR AFTER THE STORM.

My Heart goes out to you and all who were effected by Katrina.
The answer to your question Is a simple one.Our Goverment.
When it comes to money Our Goverment will spend ungodly at a blink of an eye. And the bulk will always go to the wealther or the ones in less need. As far as Race goes I have to agree with you.I too am White with Native Americian upbring and a Southern Mother(quiet a combo huh) I have seen how diff Races are treated and really think it sucks.
I for one will allways have my door open to anyone in need.I don't have much...but I don't need much either.

It's truly a terrible thing that has happened to New Orleans and a lot of people are very upset with the way the government is handling it. You can bet if it happened to Texas, where Bush is from, the government wouldn't waste any time in making it whole again.

Please know that here are people who care about you and your wonderful city also know that the name Katrina means " cleansing" as well. Everything happens for a reason and I know that is so cliche and I am personally sorry that you and everyone else there is going through this nightmare. People have lost homes and family and it is a terrible thing.

One good thing to come out of it though is I guess they found an oil strike that should supply fuel and fuel oil for many years to come.

although I'm not a US citizen (and thus might see things differently), I don't think that race has to with it pretty much.

I agree that the pictures you show are amazing, given that already one year has passed. on the other hand, there was a huge piece of countryside affected by the hurrican - if I'm not mistaken it devastated parts of Florida, Lousiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia?

As sad as this is, but there is never a real compensation for the people affected - at least not as much as would be needed for a fresh and reasonable start.

We had some terrible floodings in the last years in Germany; although the affected region was quite limited, we not yet reached the status quo. Given the huge dimensions affected by Katrina, guess it will take a lot of time...

At least, that is what I think... it might as well be that nothing is done at all by the government. This has to be judged by the people on site...

Which government do you speak of? Since it is the LOCAL New Orleans government that is in charge, not the FEDERAL government.

Plus, what do you think that what took hundreds of years to build would be restored in 1 year?

The local people can't even decide if they want to rebuild, let alone how and where.

I feel very bad for everyone who was affected. I was there for weeks right after as a first responder. But just make sure you are blaming the RIGHT goverment. This is not a federal issue, it is a state and local one.

Those pictures are the reason why you SHOULD NOT rely on the government to take care of you.
Katrina devastated wide swaths of Louisiana and Mississippi. Why do we only hear about New Orleans? Should the feds just throw money at the problem regardless of how it's spent or whose pockets it lines?
