by all means keep her but get rid of the grotesque practice of the taxpayer paying for the royal family to live in a custom to which we all would like, some hope! they think we are all beneath them anyway Edward will not even acknowledge we exist- prat!

Excuse me, for all you unpatriotic bastards who think the Queen sponges off taxpayers, do some bloody research.
Most of her money comes, not from the treasury, but from her family's own investments and land holdings. In fact, she pays the treasury, in excess revenue, hundreds of millions of pounds every year more than they pay her.
So actually, the Queen means the treasury has more money, which means lower taxes (albeit by a few pence).

She is a symbol of our country in the same way, but more so, than the flag. She is tradition and part of our heritage, something that makes our country special (albeit not unique, as 6 of the worlds 10 most powerful nations have monarchies). Besides, I don't see any problem with them being there; she doesn't, as I've already established, take taxpayers money away, she doesn't harm anyone, and talking away her throne wouldn't change anything (it's probably make her richer as she wouldn't bother paying the treasury anything any more).

Get rid of the monarchy! They're a waste of money, they bring virtually nothing in from tourism that wouldn't come in anyway. Besides, with no monarchy, people would still come to visit Buckingham Palace and stuff anyway. Does anyone really believe the only thing in the UK to bring in tourists is the monarchy? Ridiculous. Pension her off, give 'em all 2 months notice, and set them free in the real world. Not too much trouble to sort out notes/coins/stamps etc. either, they constantly change them anyway.

The queen should stay. The main reason is that she brings in so much tourism for the country. That money is vital to our economy. This is true despite the fact that the government or we pay for her. More money comes in then goes out. She is like a business. Besides she is a sweet old lady and has attended thousands of events which helps to promote our country. God bless the queen and her money making abilities.

god, NO! i don't want to be ruled by a president. she doesn't do anything anyway, she's no political power so why not just leave her there for tradition's sake. it'd be like outlawing tea drinking. :S

you know the general image of americans yeah? proud, flag waving people crying at the national anthem. As a brit thats a bloody scary image that i dont want to turn into. well the queen is like a flag owned by everyone in the uk... She's like the image of our national pride... only a nice, safe unfreaky one. in short we have to keep the monarchy because i really dont want to turn into a flag waving moron.

She should stay. Sorry us dumb Americans love that you have a royal family. It's just cool.

You can't be putting old royals in the home. . .you have to let them die with the crown on their head. It would start a bad precedent. Each time a new royal ticks off the public or their family they'd be sent off to "retirement". Let them hang around and go as mad as King George. . .more fun.

The Queen has done a good job for this country helping tourism and giving a boost to the people, I cannot imagine a President inspiring us so much , how does President Blair sound?

NO!!! But I thik it is about time she gave up the throne and pas it to Charles; which I think he should immediately pass to William.

King William the fifth sounds better [I think he would be 5th not sure]
