I skeruse: Skim over the trivial parts, but read the pertinent parts.

I am definitely a peruser. I can never bring myself to skim; I'm always afraid I'm going to miss something.
And by the way, there has been an ongoing debate for years on the meaning of "peruse". It seems that for years "peruse" was used in the context of "skim", although now the prevailing meaning seems to be "read thoroughly and with great care."

Most of the time I peruse through material. I seem to not remember things when I skim through. Never figured out how to get by with skimming.

It depends on what it is. A legal document I will definitely peruse. A memo at work, for example, I will skim just to get the basic idea being put across.

Well, it depends on what I'm reading... If it's a book I like, I devour it as quickly as I can just so that I can get to the end! I love reading books quickly, turning the pages quickly, and all of that good stuff! I don't read so quickly that I don't know what's going on though... I don't really like examining things because it really does take the magic out of reading for me... Reading is entertainment-- at least the books I read-- and I don't like analyzing it.
As for school, I just skim over it and read the parts I need to answer a question... :-)

I skim a lot, and identify those articles that may deserve further examination, set them aside, and then examine them more carefully.
I know a guy name Perouz, pronounced the same as peruse.
