I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR, BUT I SAW THIS AT AN ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO.
A CLEAR PLASTIC BOTTLE WITH ABOUT 12-15 DIFFERENT ITEMS IN IT (LIKE: BUTTON, PAPER CLIP, TOOTHPICK, THUMB TACK, COKE CAN TAB, ETC.) AND THEN FILL WITH KITTY LITTER OR DRY OATMEAL. LIST THE ITEMS THAT ARE INSIDE THE BOTTLE ON A PIECE OF PAPER AND TAPE TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOTTLE. THE PERSON IS TO TRY AND FIND AS MANY OF THE ITEMS AS POSSIBLE BY SHAKING, TURNING, LEANING THE BOTTLE OVER.
REALLY GOOD AT KEEPING KIDS ENTERTAINED ON A LONG CAR RIDE.

If it's soda bottles you can cut them in half and poke some holes in the bottom at the points and use as planters, just get a tray for the bottom for the water. I did this once, but it's better with small plants like flowers or something that doesn't get very big. (Bad experience with a pot full of dirt and an aloe plant falling over, it was a little big.)
I remember when I was in 1st grade we used milk jugs as bird feeders, but I forgot how we cut them.
Propell water bottles, or something else that's colored and somwhat flat on the bottom you can use as candle holders. If you have scizzors that cut decorative edges you can use them to trim the top edge.

I have "doll heads" that I've gotten over the years at craft stores, fairs even Walmart; I attach the head with zip ties to empty CoffeeMate bottles, juice bottles and water bottles. Then I make different outfits to fit. I used 2 larger empty juice bottles and made one a bride and the other a groom. It was a lot of work making the outfits but they are adorable.

You can make bird feeders, just cut out two large openings on either side of the bottle, and bird food in the bottom and hang from nearest tree.
