Hey,
The VIN (vehicle identification number) a 17 digit number is located on the door jam, front lower left windshield tag, ownership and insurance is the code to your car. Each number and letter mean a different designation of production or options. The last six is the production number.
The first VIN is the country of origin or assembly. IE if it is a 1 it is USA, if it is a 2 it is Canada, if it is a 3 its Mexico, J is Japan, W is Germany ect ect ect. The 10th Vin is the year everything after 2000 is the last number of the year produced, 1 is 2001. A starts at 1980, B 81, C 82, D 83, E 84, F 85, G 86, H 87, and skip the I, J 88, K 89, L 90, M 91, N 92, skip the O, P 93, skip the Q, ect

I know that I'm late to answer this, but the first letter or number in the VIN (vehicle identification number) answers where the final assembly of the vehicle took place. J=Japan, 1=USA, 2=Canada, 3=Mexico, W=Germany and so forth. Honda Preludes have a VIN that begins with a J. They are made in Japan. Unless you live in Japan your car is imported.

I am assuming that you are asking if the car is a grey import or if it was produced for the uk market. All cars produced for sale outside of Japan have a 17 digit chassis number, stamped on the bulkhead of the car. If it is a Grey import, the car will have an 11 digit number. There are a number of other pointers top the origin of the car, ie, Is the speedo reading in Kilometres or Mph, The number plate at the rear of a Jap import is usually Square instead of rectangular, the radio fitted to the car is unable to receive the majority of UK stations as the band width is different.

All Honda Preludes were built in Japan, so in that respect it is an import.
However, I'm assuming you are really asking how to tell if it is an official Honda UK supplied car, or a "grey" import first registered in Japan and imported used into the UK.
Your V5C registration document should tell you.
If it is an official UK car it will state "Declared new at first registration" in section 3 at the bottom of the front page.
The other method is to contact the customer service dept. at Honda UK, supply them with your car's VIN and ask them.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.
Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

Hello I own a jdm (jap domestic market) prulude on a 1993 plate. Easy way to tell is indicators, if the indicator stork is on yor right its an import. All jap cars have this set up in japan. The door plaque is also a good answer. And only jdm cars have an LSD (limited slip diff). Or type in your reg to an online insurance company such as eliphant and they will tell you!!!! my insurance company did, they also added £300 to my premium for the privalage!

If it is from Japan the first letter of the VIN will be 4
Usa is 1
Canada is 2
Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) are used to uniquely identify motor vehicles. Prior to 1980 there was not an accepted standard for these numbers, so different manufacturers used different formats. Modern day VINs consist of 17 characters that do not include the letters I, O or Q.
