If they like traveling you could get the family together to chip in money and send them to where they went on their first honeymoon.
And it is true, like someone else mentioned, when a person gets older they don't want presents but love. So throw a big get together and invite all the family and their wedding party if they're (I hate to say it this way) still around. Or maybe set up a day when a family portrait can be taken, and spend the whole day, or weekend with them, with various things planned like dinner, a picnic, day at the park or beach if the weather permits.
Making things is always a plus though, because it's something made from the heart that they get to keep and hold in their hands. A wall tapestry (although they look hard to make) with them and their family, grandkids, etc. Or a quilt with pictures of family or pictures of things they've done as a couple throughout the years embellished on the fabric.

A booklet of gift certificates to various restaurants.
A book of gift certificates to do the chores that may have become difficult for them such as lawn mowing, leaf raking, snow removal, car washing and detailing, oil changes, spring house cleaning and window washing, carpet shampooing, etc.
A scrapbook of their married lives...this may take a lot of planning and research but would be priceless.
If they are on a limited income, a years worth of cable TV or Internet.
Meal delivery from the children's home to theirs on a weekly or monthly basis.
Most of the ideas I could come up with are service oriented but by the time they have reached a certain age, most people aren't very interested in material possessions and prefer time spent with loved ones or relief from overwhelming responsibility such as household maintenance.

Have a book made up of pictures and commentary from the time each of them were born to the time they met, married and raised you children, and on to the grandchildren, great grandchildren etc., you can do most of it on-line yourselves, then take it somewhere to be properly bound, I am sure that they would absolutely love it, friends of mine did it and their parents were completely over the moon about it, as there were so many precious memories recorded for posterity.

There is a company, ABC Distributors, that takes pictures and puts them on blankets, (throws). If you have a favorite picture you could have two made, one with their children on it and one with their grandkids if there are any. If not, how about their wedding picture.
Money trees always are handly too, you know, making it out of 60 single dollar bills, 60 twenty's and so on.

Here is an idea that one of my friends did for his parents. He had a grandfather clock made with hand graved picture frames with pics of his parents and family. He said that it was rather expensive but its something that can be handed down to generations to come.

You could probably try to get in touch with people that were in their wedding party or some of the guests; a few words from them either in person or written would be nice.

This sounds dorky, but make up coupons for House Cleaning, Oven Cleaning, etc. They probably would love to have help with cleaning projects.
