are rats really as smart as us? seriously...

because it's not legal to do certain experiments on humans but they can do them on rats. Rats are available and disposable. The scientific community has built them up as sort of standard guinea pigs. yes they are pretty similar to us. more than rocks or trees or paper towels of course. they are mammals and many things are similar.

Because we're almost as smart as rats, and our characters are similar I guess.

they study rats cause they can't study humans...every animal is very smart in its own way...just because humans can't fathom the language of other species does not mean they are dumb...it means that we are...

Good question. Only some studies do any cross-animals comparisons. Many are focused on only human behavior.

because they test the rats for results. the testing they do on them cannot be done on humans as it is unethical
