To sound effective and clear, you do not want to go any faster than 100 words per minute. Normal human speeech is faster than this, but if you are giving a speech for class, you need to slow down and enunciate.

Words In A 10 Minute Speech

I am not sure, but here is what I would do to find out--(like I always told my physics students)--do an experiment.
Get a copy of a famous speech, maybe a presidential address,
or perhaps a short story, and read it out loud at a comfortable speed. Read for ten minutes exactly, and count the words.
My guess is that it will be in the order of 1500-2000 words.
This is a pretty long speech, so you may want to use some quotes or stories to spice it up and keep it moving.
Good luck!

According to my shorthand teacher we naturally speak at a rate of about 100 words per minute, so if you were to speak 75 or 80 it would just seem like you were a slow speaker. You must have a presentation or speech to make!

There does not appear to be a consistent spoken average word per minute. But the low and high I have seen is 100 and 250 respectively. So 1000 to 2500 words.
