Romanians use the leu (pl. lei) as currency; and its coins are bani (sing. ban). Because of rapid inflation after the fall of Ceausescu in 1989, the Romanian government revalued their currency as of June 2005, making 10,000 "old" lei (displayed ROL) equal to 1 "new" leu (displayed RON). The new currency is more the size and shape of the Euro, reflecting the Romanian hopes to enter the EU as a provisional member in 2007. ROL is still in circulation until next summer, and currently most businesses display their prices in both ROL and RON.
