are the jumpers set correctly?
2 you can buy a lens cleaner for about 7 bucks at walmart
3 are there any smudges ect on the cd itself?
if youve checked all these and it dosnt work you may have to replace it

To get your disc back; all CD DVD Drives on a computer have a tiny hole in the front. If the unit it powered up OK, pushing a paper clip or something into this hole should force the drive to eject.

There are many possible problems:

1. Test your CD-Rom/DVD-Rom with a common CD
2. Test your CD-Rom/DVD-Rom with a common Materized CD
3. Test your CD-Rom/DVD-Rom with a common DVD
4. Test your CD-Rom/DVD-Rom with a common Materized DVD

This first level will show if your player is able to read all possible compability levels; Wrong into first rule (1), perhaps is physical or software.

1. Do your PC recognize your DVD Player? (Configuration Panel, System) - There are not even one signal of conflict within your computer?
2. Cables inside of your computer are connect from DVD to Motherboard?
3. You BIOS Recognize your CD:DVD player?

If answer is no to al, probably is some hardware problem.

mine went exactly the same and i had to have a new one fitted get yourself a cleaning disk as the infared eye might be dirty if this doesnt work im afraid its usually cheaper to go to the computer fairs and buy a new one, take it to a local computer shop or ask around there are usually people u no who could help you fit it.

If its a home burned disc, it might have problems.
Try other discs. Or is it with all discs?
Try using one of those CD cleaning solutions.

I am afraid you have completely ruined your computer beyond repair. Unplug it, throw it in the dumpster, and go out and buy another. Try to be more careful next time, huh?

other than checking the jumper settings, which would recognize it as a primary master/slave or secondary master/slave, i would suggest checking also the IDE cable inside the computer, maybe you have a bad IDE cable. i just had this problem, and it was just a bad IDE cable & its worth a dollar only.
