Whenever I see 4X4's they are driven by either small, insecure men or women with children (taking them to schools). Unless you live in muddy/hazardous conditions why do you need them? The arguement of the room for children is rubbish as I have a normal sized car and can fit four/five people in comfortably. They are completely road unfriendly (can't see round them, lights shine through your cars).

What makes me laugh most though is the cheap 4X4's. Kia's etc. Made of plastic, slow and cheap and nasty. If you're going to get one then afford a proper one.

Why choose a Range Rover (etc) when you can have a BMW, Merc, Jag etc etc????

I disagree that 4X4 vehicles always driven by *!/?holes

Its only 98%, the remaining 2 % are farmers who actually need them.

We've lived in the country for years and i've never had the need to drive a 4x4. In fact, our village school has almost no 4x4's outside it. If we can survive with ordinary cars I'm quite sure people in Chelsea can too !

tradcodriver certainly sums up the 4x4 attitude that i think you alluded to !!!!! I don't think anyone has a problem with people who need, or even could really "do with" a 4x4. As for towing trailers, quoting the extreme of mini" does no favours at all. Quoting extremes is often a symptom that having a normal discussion about your arguement wouldn't work.

We live on a small holding, i regularly take trailers to market, buy, hay, hayliage, take animals between fields, move muck around etc....do i need a 4x4...no, my SAAB does just fine thankyou..

I can't believe the personnal abuse dealt out against various people whose only sin is that thay drive a car which has 4 wheel drive. No other reason. Not because the car is big, or heavy on fuel, or pumps out a lot of pollution. No, just because it has 4 wheel drive. They know nothing about the driver, but he has all sorts of problems. I drive a Discovery. It's great to drive, it's used to travel up and down a rough lane twice a day and tows a horse box. I'm not a farmer, so apparently I shouldn't own one. It would be ok if I carried a sheep I believe. I'm short and fat, which means any one who is under 6 foot 2 and weighs more than 14 stone is short and fat. They are arseholes. Well, I do have one, but I do need a new **** because the old one has a crack in it. I'm also a wanker. Well, I'm not. I haven't masturbated for many years. In fact, thinking about it I had a 2 wheel drive car then. Perhaps all drivers of 2 wheel drive cars are.......And I've even been told that if I can afford a 4X4 I can afford a second car, so if I buy another 4X4 I can afford 2 extra cars. So I could sell them and buy another car, and buy another 4X4!! Now what else was there. Oh yes, now the world is bigger than London. So they drive 4X4's to impress people, but of course ths doesn't apply to drivers of flash Mercs, BMW's, Rollers etc. I have a small penis as well, and am insecure, as are all drivers of 4X4's. So let's take the farmers who are allowed to own a 4X4 out of it andI'll leave it to you to tell Dennis and Terry who I work with in the electricity industry that they are small and fat, insecure and must carry a sheep in the back of their Unimog (now there IS a 4X4!!) as well as being wankers and arseholes. I think they might persuade you to change your mind! I feel no guilt in driving a Discovery, I do feel safer, I'm not a danger to other drivers, I'm courteous and I drive my car because I like it. I can't think of any reason not to own it.
By the way, most of the up markket 4X4's in this neck of the woods are driven by lovely attractive young ladies who are always smiling. Perhaps because their husbands don't have small willies!! You really should all take counselling.

Quite right, lets BAN all 4X4's even the ones that are smaller, more economical and safer than 4X2's. Lets all get a nice Merc S class, or a BMW Series 7, better still a Ferrari, Lamboghini etc. They are SOOOOO practical for taking the kids to school, shopping etc, and they are all driven by such manly, kind road savy drivers. So cheap on fuel, and of course it is an optical illusion that they are bigger than a Fiat Panda type 4X4. Plus we all need so desperatly to drive at 150mph, even if we do live in London. Who ever heard of any car other than a 4X4 trying to tail gate you off the road, or being driven by a small man, fat woman etc. No you're right, ban them all. Then we'll start on automatics, or red cars, you know, something that it really anti-social.......

You must live in an area with little men then, you obviously don't live in my area. But I live in the country and have large animals, and I can gaurentee your normal sized car can not fit what I have to haul in my SUV's, that's right I have two, and they're paid for, but I'm 6'2 and almost 16 stone, so getting into a normal sized car is not only a chore but is uncomfortable to drive. I will however, concede the point that suv's in urban centers are a pointless endeavor, and yes s.hitty little 4WD's are a waste, Range Rovers are ridiculously over priced, BM's are too, and if you look at the 4x4 test results most of the over priced "trendy" models don't even come in the top 5 over all. For most in the city, it's a fashion statement, for us in the country, it's a nessesity. Besides, me in a smart car, would look ridiculous.

ok i drive a 4x4 but for what i feel are legit reasons, i run a landscaping company and its a pick up plus i live in a very rural location and we are regulary blocked with snow for days unless you have access to a 4x4, oh i am also 6ft 2 and built like a brick **** house lol.

ok so alot of 4x4 drivers are little guys i agree but due to the new tax legislation crew cab picks become a legit business expense where they werent before as they were a passenger vehicle, before we look at the goverment overly taxing 4x4 owners maybe we should look at them closing this loop hole which allows company reps to claim back alot of tax.

the 4x4 is a status symbol for many, and even a kia is a big vehicle even though as you say its rubbish, i as a 4x4 driver feel its silly my tax is the same for our 4x4 2.5 turbo diesel as out highly effcient 207 which is low on emissions and returns 72mpg, i should be taxed harder and if it costs to much i should find and economic alternative, but taxing at the pump hits everyone including the poor, i have a 2.5 4x4 i should pay alot of tax simple.

kia produces a reasonoble size 4x4 which is available at the price of a small family car, lets tax 4x4s heavy when you buy and if you can prove you need!! it you can claim the tax back.

I am obviously one of your hated a holes. I have 2, a V6 Sierra, which is pretty quick and handles like a dream. I also have an old Discovery, which is a great tool, its load carrying capacity is brill due to its high roof (and it is the only estate car that my rotovator will fit in). It helps me in my job, as I work out on construction sites and am generally paid a daily rate to provide my own 4x4 for off road use, so it earns me money as well. So sorry dear chap I shall remain an a***hole, oh yes, I am not a very big chap either!!
It also has a wonderful wind up factor

As you correctly state, 4x4's are driven by very insecure people; surely there is no greater statement of self loathing than a Range Rover or a Porsche Cayenne or (the worst in my opinion) a BMW X5. Why bother when you never go off road? Basically, it is all about oneupmanship and 'keeping up with the Jones'; fortunatly most of us don't feel the need to compete at such a level. It is basically chav bling for people who can 'afford' such vehicles. Oh and before people start calling me jealous - I think not. Am quite happy knowing I am not up to my eyeballs in debt to a finance company just so I can take little Johnny to school in a Range Rover.

TWO WORDS-CITY FOLK!!! You all don't have a clue of what in the @##! you're talking about. We'll see who pulls you up a hill or out of a ditch when you wreck your little roller skate in the winter. I do agree with you about Kia's and other 'midget' good for nothing 4x4's. I like sitting higher than others. I have a Ram with an 8" lift and I'm not a little guy!

I agree.

It's like all the 'muppets' that drive BMWs got together with all the 'tubes' that drive 4x4s and thought what could we do to make things even worse.

The BMW 4x4! The X5 has to be the worst driven car in the country. Then to top it all every one of them seems to have a personal number plate that starts X5...

My priorities are size (ease of parking in Town) and economy (65mpg and £50 a year to tax). If you need a 4x4 to tow a horse box then you can afford to run a second car too. (If you can afford the Vet's bills then you can afford the Garage bills)
