There are a lot of clever things to say to them, the problem is, even if they hang up, their computer will call again. Telemarketers work in a 'boiler room,' fast paced and high pressure. To get rid of them, ask them to hold a moment when one calls but don't come back to the phone. They'll take you off their list because you waste their time. Also, when you get those calls and no one is there, it's a computer logging the time you're home so a sales person is more likely to reach you. As soon as you recognize what's happening, press the # key 6 to 8 times as fast as you can. It confuses the computer and it will kick your number out of the system.

I start talking before they can get a word in, i.e: "Hey Tasha is that you, tell me all about last night etc etc..." When I finally let them talk I say "Oh, sorry you sound just like my mate Tasha - OMG - you'll never guess what she did last night...." and carry on talking until they get so frustrated that they hang up - Har har har!!
If I'm being lazy, I'll say "Oh, sorry, I've got the runs, so I'm gonna have to hang up now..." As you are putting the phone down you can still hear them yabbering away "No, wait, can I have a moment of your time?"
NO-------------

I just say I am not interested and hang up. I hate the ones that are recordings and REALLY hate the ones that are recordings and put YOU on hold for "an important" message. This time of year the political ones get me, too.

Actually I just like to put the phone down on the sideboard and let them talk away. I go check it a few times to see if they are still on there or not, they don't usually call me back. If they do call me back I pretend like my phone isn't working and keep saying HELLO each time a bit loader. Can you believe they actually get paid to call and annoy you?

I Say can you hold. Then I put the phone down for ten minutes. If they are still there when I go back I give them another ten minutes. Normally they are gone. One lasted for about 30 mins.

I am always polite and say, "Thank you but I am not interested...and please take me off of your list." Then I hang up, not giving them a chance to say anything else.
I try to remember that, even though these people are annoying, they're just trying to earn some money.

I tell them that my mum and dad are not in, even though i have kids in their 20s, they fall for it every time.
Its a nice way of getting rid of them, after all they are only doing their job.
