Yes, day care is bad. Several decades of research have shown that the dad gets less approving of the child, the mother gets less attached to the child, the child is less bonded to mom. The child's social skills are hurt, they are more aggressive, they do less well in school. They are more likely to be depressed or anxious, more likely to be insecurely attached. Insecure attachment is a huge risk for developing sociopathy.

In addition, life without mommy just blows for a baby/toddler/preschooler. They are sad without mommy and learning theory explains why the weakest babies stop crying at being left - if something doesn't work, an organism stops doing it. Mommy doesn't come when I cry, I stop crying. Because babies think, they also realize that mommy doesn't care if they cry. (Mommy might be poor and truly care, but the baby is incapable of abstract thought and can only conclude that this miserable feeling is the feeling mommy intended for the child.)

hi there, im not from that area, but id just like to say that you should not listen to first answerer!! stay away from a company called Busy Bees, ive used them before and they were negligent, needless to say i dont use them anymore!! i have found that the best thing to do is use a childminder rather than a nursery, you could try looking at your local childcare information service website as they will have all local registered childminders there with what spaces they have available and their fees.
hope this helps

Children are harmed by separation from their mothers. NICHD research shows that it doesn't matter what the quality of the nursery is. Even when grandma or a nanny provide the substitute care, a young child's intellect, social skills, emotional well-being, and physical health are harmed by separating from mommy before ages 3 - 5 years old.

So, no, there are no good nurseries for a one year old baby. She needs her mother in order to develop well. In order to feel loved. If your child doesn't mind separating from you, she is not attached to you and that is a sign of big emotional problems ahead.

Regardless of the excuses made by people who abandon their children to the care of strangers, negligent and otherwise, humans evolved to need their mothers care and are harmed by separation from her.
