Because they or any of their interests were touch until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in December 7, 1941, causing the destruction of many ships and the dead of many. Perhaps if you come to see the remain battles, the last untold history this last almost until 1945 and USA started their participation in 1941. Something else, it wasn't just the U.S.A. all the South America and Central America republics, except one, joined the U.S.A. in this action. The same thing was in WW I the U.S.A. remained neutral, but giving economical supports to the allies, remember that "allies" is the word given to countries with a common ideas. In this case U.S.A. had common ideas with England and France. perhaps that in both wars, U.S.A.'s interests were attacked, in the WW I by Germany, with their submarines technology, and in WW II by Japan. The same thing happened in the Spanish-American War, were a U.S.A. ship expoleded and U.S.A. made Spain responsible for this act that had happened in pier at Cuba by the end of the 19th century. The same happened not too many years ago, the old USSR tried some "business" in Afganistan and the U.S. goverment sent people to help them, no interests of the U.S.A. were touch yet, in here Mr. George Bush, Sr. As director of the C.I.A. he helpped with the training and weaponry of Afghan troops against the Russians, Includidng the very same Osama Vin Ladden, then terrosism started to incerased and then a very big interest of the U.S.A. was touched provoqing the dead of thousands of people, the 9/11 events, since after the U.S.A. started a war against the terrorosm and the Taliban. Believe me in all situations the US Department of Intelligence had reports about this possible attacks, but they did happen anyways.

In 1938 and 1939, the United States was drastically unprepared for war. As a matter of fact, the US Army didn't even train with real weapons (they actually used broom sticks). The fact the US had real time to build up it's military machine was the real benefit. The draft was implimented in 1938, which was a huge thing and helped build up numbers. Another beneficial factor was the fact that the US had a chance to observe warfare in Europe. What I mean by that is that the US had a chance to meet the technology that was being used in aircraft, tanks and aircraft carriers. These 3 weapons are common place today but back then they were still in there infancy stage. Matter of fact, it's sort of amazing when you see the development of aircraft technology that occurred in the 5 years of war - sadly that often happens, great technological advances happen because of war.

Prior to Pearl Harbour the American government under FDR practices a more isolationist stance saying europe's problem with hitler didn't affect America. However when the Japanese did an unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbour on December 7 1941, the Americans came into the war.

Unfortunately in the US at the time we had a lot of anti war citizens like today who did not want to get us involved. Pearl harbor was the catalyst that pushed us in which is a shame because with over 50 million dead if we had gotten involve earlier we might have reduce the casualties.

People were reluctant to go into it. FDR was worried how this would affect him in the election and he promised to stay out of war. When Pearl Harbor occurred the country became ready for war. Republicans call FDR a warmonger and tried to hurt him in the 1944 election but it failed. America was neutral and isolationsist at that time, they never wanted to go into WWII but when we were attacked by Japan our mood changed.

The war didn't involve them at the beginning but when the Germans bombed English ships some Americans died and the government decided to intervene. This is either WW1 or WW2

Because the people of america did not want to get involved in the war, even though FDR was sneaking resources to the allies before the US entered. FDR was actually(I know it sounds sick) relieved when Pearl harbour happened so the people would finally go along with what he wanted to do.

Because FDR was busy listening to the American people. They didn't think the war had anything to do with them. It took Pearl Harbor for their anger to awaken, and FINALLY do something about the atrocities that were taking place across the pond.

Joker, I believe those inciddents occured in both world wars-I know that one of the ships was the Lusitania.

Anywho, We didn't enter the war until it directly affected us because the U.S. was still following a very isolationalist foriegn policy.Frankly,It may do us some good to return to said policy.

Oh well mainly because american is a country run by corporate interests and corporate interests at the time were better suited to letting millions of gypsies jews polish and russians be gassed to death and houses in concentration camps by the germans whilst Prescott Bush and his cronies sold steel to germany. So if you have a holocaust survivor relative what must you th nk when you look at g.w?
