My God yes, if I were your benevolent dictator I would outlaw them first thing, there should be community's where there are no t v s , violence is the problem. its horrible what children see, it desensitizes them to violence, and sex, Some examples of ,Love should be a requirement. decent shows,no sex like animals.they do as they see, parents should not let them watch such trash our they will turn into trashy people. you are what you watch and see and experience, children should be protected, they should all learn karate so they are confident in themselves, there should be a class in manners and morals in schools, children should be around there kind, rude people should be separated from the mannerly children. in schools. violence in schools should be delt with by sending those mean ones to a school that has very strict teachers.and rules, these bad kids should NOT be allowed around good kids,Its all about money on t v. not whats good for people. we should have morals and discipline in schools, and at home.and some sort of education about all the differnet religions so people can be tolorant of others beliefs, books should be the main way to education. and recreation. to stimulate childrens imagination.

Aloha from Down Unda!
Do you wanna live pre 1950? Corrupts or enlightens? I'm glad there's SOME TV, even here in Australia. Communication has NEVER, in the full history of humanity, EVER been so fruitful. It's not my opinion. The FACT is, you wouldn't even know how to operate a computer without guys like Man from UNCLE & Lost in Space to perpetuate the ideas of a medium far beyond our puney imaginations & dreams! My 'opinion' means absolutely nothing without the opportunity to share it with other television viewers to 'relate'. What good is any opinion to a meatball without the sense of relevancy afforded by a medium more far reaching than ANY other in the course of humanity?
[I shouldn't even be answering this. You MUST be too stupid to comprehend the concept of an answer! Yeah, of course, my thinking has been corrupted by TV, Internet Broadband & dumbasses delux!] Oh well...

Actually I know this isn't going to be a popular answer... (><)
But I agree with you that perhaps the world would be better without television.
Television for information is one thing, but most of the stuff on TV is just crap. Entertainment value poor, commercials galore trying to get us to buy or invest in things we don't need... I stopped watching television a year ago and my life is all the better for it.
As to corrupting the way we think... people say that pop stars and idols are often bad impressions on youths. (anorexia, promiscuity, etc) You could make a case for that.
In North Korea, where there are only two TV channels solely for broadcasting propaganda, it is a definate example of corruption in television broadcasting.

Swings and roundabouts. Back in the forties and fifties we were all less aware as to what was happening around us, TV had no sex, no swearing, no drugs, not much of anything really, except examples of the way people thought we should live..respectable, respectful, etc.
The world has moved on to free thinking and free speech, but along with that comes the media coverage, we can now pretty much see whatever we want to see. Especially with the current chat shows whose underlying point is to show the entertainment aspect out of the dysfunctional people they have on as guests. I think this change has had a huge impact on our world and I feel it is impossible to be able to turn back the clock.

No. I don't think TV corrupts the way we think. I think other people do that and have been doing so for thousands of years. TV gives people who wish to corrupt an easy way to reach a massive audience though, but TV itself is not to blame.

Do we really want to go back to singing around the pianola? I think a lot of tv is absolute rubbish. I'd love to see the standards raised. So that families could watch it without shame - I think much of tv is so shameful. It is aimed at people with low iq's. And yes, I do think it corrupts the way we think. Did this society swear as much before tv began to show "how the real world lives"? Was there as much violence and mindless sex?
Were there ever so many unworthy celebrities? I'd love to go without tv. But my family won't let me.

Yes
People have always found ways of influencing the thoughts and actions of others. That's why some people have all the power.
At least TV has saved us from having to go to community events for entertainment and have to have some religious pratt banging on at us.
On the plus side, you can ridicule and mock those on TV without getting thrown out and you can choose to turn it off/ to another channel.
If it wasn't for TV they would have to build football stadia that held several million supporters - especially for the world cup!!!

I just got TV after not having it for 4 years. I do believe now that I have lived w/out it that we do rely on it. My life was definately more full w/out TV. Tv isn't all bad. I don't think TV is the problem I think the immature people watching it don't know how to put anything into the proper perspective.

television is entertainment, not education
televison doesn't corrupt the way you think, nothing stops you from reading books, get informed about what's going on in the world etc.

TV is a great form of entertainment & a learning tool
My son has learned a lot from watching the shows he likes. An example is we watch Go, Diego, Go. He's learned a lot about animals, he can help do the puzzles at the end, & he remembers the information.
