I want wireless internet for my PSP, but I want to keep my cable internet. Is there a way to make the cable internet wireless? And how do I know if I have a wireless internet card? And if I do happen to have a wireless card, do I still need a router? I'm sooo confused.

here is what you need
one of these: Router

If you have a desktop computer and want to use it wirelessly you need one of these as well:

But you really don't need the card in your desktop if you just want to use a psp. the router alone will talk to the psp. the computer, you can plug the cable that runs from the modem to your computer into the back of the router and your computer will be on the internet. The router supports wireless and wired connections, so you don't need to add anything to your computer unless you would like the freedom to move it around the house if you want . The wire coming from your cable modem plugs into the router, the router's job is to split the connection up to the various devices in your home requesting internet access.

if you have a laptop, you might need one of these;

but if the laptop is less than a year old, it probably has one built in. If it say "centreno" on the cover somewhere it has wifi built in.

I hope I dumbed it down enough for you!

you need a wireless router to hook up to the cable internet service modem.

To see if you have a wireless card, check in the lower right corner for a wireless icon, the other way is to go:

start
control panel
click on network connections (u might have to click on classic view on the left to see this icon)
you will see at least one icon for a wired connection, if there is a second one saying wireless then you have one. If not you need to install one.

You need a wireless base station.

These are usually built into a wireless router but you can buy seperate ones.

What system do you run?
Pretty much all Apples for the last 5 years or more have built in wireless as standard. Only a minority of XP machines do.
