Do your research. I think he should go to some local Wedding fairs and check out the competition first to see if a) he has the talent, b) it is worth doing. Then do some freebies for friends, reccommendation is always the best form of advertising. Make a demo CD, advertise, Wedding fairs, perform live sets in bars with the reight sort of clientelle. Always work on expanding your repertoire and get some professional lessons to help him maintain (poss improve!) his voice and prevent him from damaging it.

Advertise in the right places, build up a relationship with business in the industry- I'll big you up, if you tell everyone how great I am), and maybe approach a few venues to suggest you'll give them a cut if anyone using the venue emplys you too, go to wedding fairs, don't price yourself out of the market, be prepared to travel, maybe sing at local talent evenings, karaoke evenings so that your face is familiar in the area, be prepared to go that bit further- whatever it takes. good luck!

I once heard of a wedding which for the bride and groom dance they requested 'I still havn't found what i'm looking for' by U2...

How ironic, lol.... sounds like a match made in heaven

As for the business tip, get him to do one as a freebie on the condition that he can have someone filming it... he can then use that film to attract more custom

Get him to contact wedding planners and ask to be put on their list of wedding musicians to recommend to couples. Obviously he'll need to provide them with copies of a demo. Also, contact venues which are licensed for civil ceremonies, as they often have their own in-house planners for music, djs and stuff like that. There is also a couple of websites dealing with wedding musicians which he could get on to, I can't remember what they are as it is some time since I looked, but you should be able to search for them without too much trouble. Other than that it is cards and posters in bridal shops etc. He just needs to get in touch with anyone who deals with couples and get networking and handing out demos.

a good variety will be better - up-tempo tunes will fill the dance floor and later some slushier songs for couples - such as eric clapton's wonderful tonight
