Abusive towards their partners while giving birth? Were you not, like, THERE when the baby was conceived? Hallo?
If you're thinking along the lines of 'Keep the hell away from me with that penis of yours, mate', it's because you are partly responsible for the acute pain she's in while giving birth - and it is acute. If you would like to know how acute, trying swallowing a ball about 10 cm in diameter whole and trying to poo it out the other end - yes, OUCH! And even though your - ahem - equipment is designed for things other than gestating a baby and bringing it out into the world, please don't forget that in the woman's case everything has to stretch, and as a result sometimes tears, which is incredibly painful.
A little verbal abuse is a small price to pay, my friend. Anyway, once the maternal instincts kick in, all is forgotten, and even forgiven ...

I didn't but I got very nasty with most of the nurses. It was much worse than I thought because I have a vitriolic verbal ability and basically never use it. I didn't want to be mean to my husband because I was afraid he would leave, and I was feeling very vulnerable and scared. Most of the nurses, on the other hand, I felt were patronizing and unhelpful so when I got pissed it all went flying at them.
I should add that it wasn't ALL the nurses, only the ones who were treating me like a number.
In an interesting illustrative twist (illustrating that a lot of this stuff is physical), once the anesthesiologist gave me an epidural and I finally got some pain relief I began to joke and flirt with him shamelessly. Fortunately husband was not upset.

No, not all women do. I think it depends on how much pain they are in, how 'well' they are coping with the birth. You could compare it to trying to pass a watermelon through your urethra, though. Think about that! Ouch! That might explain why some women do get abusive.

It is true that during the second stage of labour, a woman can become agressive towards her partner. This is due to increases in hormones, in pain and evrything to do with labour! I didnt, but I felt I should pretend to, so shouted at my hubbie for 10 seconds, just so I could say I had!
If your partner does, please dont take it personally, dont try to make it better, just accept it and do what she asks!
It will pass - I promise!

What women say in the delivery room can get pretty racy. Dont take seriously anything that a woman says in delivery. Pain coming from cramps can do things to people. If you haven't had a kidney stone as a man, you don't know what she is going through.

Oh yes, they became the very reason that you are in so much agony, and their patronising little remarks..." breathe, breathe" wind you up in a way only a woman in labour knows about. You want to kill them, hurt them, you hate ALL men, and you swear you will NEVER let them touch you ever again.
Also the gas and air can cause some profanities to slip out.

Of course its the man's fault! Its ALWAYS the man's fault, probably because women are too darn thick!!
By the way, my wife isn't thick and she didn't abuse me during labour or the midwife and was extremely happy to be a mother at the end of it.

When he continued to ask me what I thought about a name during contraction - yeah, I got my point across that that was not the time to talk names.
He swears that I got superhuman strength through labor as I crumpled his much larger hand with my small hand
