Try AVG antivirus by Grisoft, I use it myself http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ It just came out with a new improved version. For antispyware I use two programs the first and best being Adaware SE http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
the other being Spybot search and destroy http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022-10122137.html?part=dl-spybot&subj=dl&tag=but
All are free and very good. Good luck

All the free ones recommended here are old versions that are not updated as needed. Just go to microsoft.com and ask for Windows antispyware beta. it is free, is upgraded regularly, and is considered a part of windows. It does give you a message every 4 to six months that it is running out. It is not !! just go download the new version which is still free.

because of the actual actuality the declaring is going: "If it ain't broke, do now no longer restoration it". I have Norton, because it were given right here loose with my BT Broadband kit, and it serves me surprising, blockading off threats on better efficient than one party. people do bypass on about it being a source hog, yet that's consequently of each and every of the bells and whistles that contain it. It in hardship-free words turns authentic into an argument once you've a extremely previous computing device alongside with small memory (<512Mb). do now no longer bypass down the loose AVG street, as that's continuously out-finished with the help of Norton and optimal diverse pay-for secure practices techniques. Kaspersky is acknowledged with the help of many because of the actual actuality the ultimate, yet Norton and McAfee aren't to any extent further that a recommendations contained in the back of. You get what you pay for!

Everyone else is now thinking "outside the box":
http://pclinuxos.com
Really, everyone, including Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com, and MSN.com, Microsoft's Redmond Campus routers, firewalls, development labs, runs virus-proof Linux.
Microsoft switched their 45,000 computers to Linux over the past 9 years. Google.com runs on 100,000 linux computers, clustered to act as supercomputers.
Yahoo.com runs on another 'Nix clone, FreeBSD. 165 nations governments run 'Nix. 4500 States, Regional governments run Linux.
Public schools in 39 states have switched, saving $1,200 per student, per year. ( Indiana is the latest, with 200,000 Linux systems, as reported in http://news.com.com/Indiana+schools+enroll+Linux/2100-7344_3-5820237.html
and, other media - google.)
If you insist in continuing to run Microsoft products, at least drop the use of Internet Exploder, and, Lookout Express, with their system access! http://getfirefox.com
