why is my inernet slow?

i have adelphia cable i pay 6mb but i getting 40kb it is only connect to one computer

If it has always been this way it could be that other people are using the same line (contention ratio) or you might have spyware or programmes running in the background killing your connection. Try searching on google for trend micro housecall it is a free virus and spware scanner online. if its not that contact your provider
