I did a huge term paper on Insomnia for University, and Valerian was one of the remedies I studies. There is no evidence that long term use of Valerian (in any form) is harmful but, like any substance (caffeine, sugar, alcohol, whatever) it can be habit forming. But as a fellow insomniac, I know one thing - if it works - keep taking it!!! Sleep deprivation is way worse than a herbal dependency.

Herbs are like anything else, here's how i take my herbs, two weeks on, one week off but this has been years for me . In your case try only taking 3 in a week or so then 2 if it isn't doing the same then go back to 3. It all depends on you own body , but no it won't have any long term affects, call you local herb store/new age, as they call them. Get a book on herbs their also , the herb bible is a good one. good luck & sleep well.

Valerian & hops are both safe. If you have found these to be helpful, then you've done well.
Another thing to consider is taking Calcium/Magnesium tablets. They're known as Cal-Mags. The calcium should be twice as strong as the magnesium, & it helps relax you & calm you down.
