I started smoking at 22 stopped when I was pregnant and breast feeding then started back up again when I was no longer breast feeding. I have tried hypnosis(that was a laugh), nicotine gum, patch as well as using wellbutain(prescribed from my doctor). I want to quit totally this time. I want to be around to see my daughter grow up and get married and have babies. I can keep myself busy during the day to where I don't feel like I need to smoke. My problem is the night time. I wake up having muscle spams, sweats and irratibility that is through the roof. What can I do to help this process along without alienating everyone around me with my crappy attitude. I know I have the need...it's getting there that is killing me.

I am now 36 years old. So I have been smoking for 13 years if you take out the year I was pregnant and breast feeding.

First of all, congratulations! I know how tough this can be and will remember you in my prayers.
It might be easier for you to get through a night if you have a hard physical workout about an hour before bedtime, then a relaxing shower or bath. The way you will be both tired and relaxed before you go to bed and hopefully your body will continue to sleep. I am sure that if you can get through this, the night things will get less frequent and severe.
Another question - don't know your age, but is it possible you are having pre-menopausal symptoms as well?

I did this by going to one of those discount stores and buying three different kinds of those cheap cigarettes that taste awful. I then proceeded to change them around until I had somked all three cartons. By this time, the taste in my mouth was really awful. I then got patch # 2 of the clear patches (I and many people cannot wear the colored ones so don't get those). I used patch two and three only and wore them for a total of 5 weeks instead of the 10. I also cut some in half even though it was not recommended. The leftovers were used sparingly for two more weeks to cover emergencies. It worked like a charm and I had smoked one to two packs a day for 30 years. I have now gained 22 pounds and that "pill" they are talking about doesn't work as claimed, must be taken for life, probably won't be approved here, and cost about $4 each from overseas. So, if it is approved here we are talking about $8 each pill and insurance that will say no to lifelone use. Original claim was about 18 pound loss and now that is stated at about 8 pounds, which you will regain as soon as you stop the pill.

I tried the patch and gum many times and every time i failed. The best thing to do when you need a cigarette is to occupy your hands and mouth with something else. I quit about a year ago and eveythime i felt like having a cigerette i would have a lollipop and mess aroung with a rubix cube or a stress ball and after about 15 minutes your craving goes away. GIve it a try!

There is a new pill coming out you should see a doctor about it works well according to those using it, also if patches are your idea, then try the name brand I hear more people say that the off brand patches are junk and don't work as opposed to the name brand.

I have never smoked but 3 of my close work colleagues did. After much complaining of smelly clothes everyday, and not to mention the damage it was doing to me. One by one, they all gave up successfully, they all used patches.
I would have thought you will have to try and find what works for you? Maybe take a pic of your daughter to bed with you and when you get the urge, look at it? Sounds like it's your motivation?
Good luck!

Patch really helped me. Also I thought about all the bad things about smoking (cost, smell, health risks) and realized therewas nothing rationally good about it. Also I thought about how I want to be in control of my body.

Yes you can quit! Ask your Doctor for the brand new pill called Chantix. it's expensive and good chance your medical insurance will cover it..I know people whose Ins. did..also go on www.chantix.com and read about this...The people I know that are on it swear by it and all of them have not smoked in 50 days..claim they don't even have the urge..and they were heavy smokers..Good Luck..Keep presssing on and you will quit...

Try to relax by watching tv instead or have fun going to place to place or eat something that makes you feel better.
