A higher crime rate. I've lived in countries where there is no welfare. You don't walk anywhere at night. In some places, it's not you might be robbed, you will be robbed and you might be killed.

The pro to eliminating public assistance programs would be saving money. The cons are that children may starve and not have clothing, medical care or school supplies. Even if we take the stand of saying that the mother got herself in a poverty situation, there are still the children to think about.

The welfare system does need to be revamped. If used correctly it can be a great help. Some people only need help for a short time and then go back to being productive citizens.
