Heh- unlikely the way things are going now. It's all about American Idol-type pop right now.
But I do think your question should've been "*60s* & 70s.
IMO, by the 80s, we took a nosedive after MTV took hold. It was all about appearance over quality by then. We hadda look much harder for great bands.
But to be fair, the 60s & 70s are a HARD act to follow...

Ok. 1st off- Alice Cooper, AC/DC= 70s acts that *lasted* into the 80s. I think that may also go for Whitesnake.
Poison- Total MTV hair band. They brought Nothing, absolutely Nothing new to the table. It was all about make-up with them.
Never heard of The Angels or Cold Chisel & I *lived* the 80s. If the band is really Angel, then they too are a 70s band.
There is good music out there today, but you have to look WAY harder for it.
EDIT 2:
Just did a little leg work on Cold Chisel. Aussie band that got its start in the 70s. Guess they never made it to the States...
