Many years ago we bought a house that had thousands of dandelions in the back yard. There is a tool called a dandelion digger. It's a rather sharp and narrow end on a long shaft with a handle. You dig down, flip up the root and discard it. Before we got rid of all the dandelions, we enjoyed several batches for dinner. You must get the greens when they are very young and tender.

Any brand of garden store weedkillers or feed & grow fertilizer will do the job for a season or more. Most likely, they will reappear again. If you don't want to put chemicals on your lawn, one way to face this problem is to water the soil generously and pluck them out by hand before they flower. Make sure no part of the root system is left in the ground. From the way you described, it seems you may have to go the chemical route. Good Luck!

If there is any grass there that you want to keep, use Weed-B-Gon to kill the dandelions and spare the grass. If you just want to kill everything and start from scratch, use Round-Up. You don't even have to spray it on heavy. In a week, everything will be dead, then you can till it all into the ground and get started on a new lawn. Be sure to follow the instructions regarding how long to wait to plant anything in the area. Good luck!

You don't want to use weed killer, it will stay in the ground for a long time and prevent the growth of anything you plant afterwards. Rototiller the area, then rake up whatever weeds remain on the surface.

Cover with a large sheet of plastic (preferably black), secured by rocks for at least a week. The heat will kill the remaining weeds.

Rototiller the plot again and plant your new grass. Any remaining dandelions then can be pulled by hand when you see them come up, there will only be a few. Good Luck!

hi, the best way is to get a strong weedkiller, if you do remove them by hand try to get all the root, just a bit left in the ground will result in another plant. if you are in no hurry, you could put an old bit of carpet down, and leave it for a couple of months, this will kill everything under the carpet though. hope this helps, and good luck in your new home.

Weed killer and regular cutting of your lawn......you don't want the little yellow flowers to progress to the white puffy stage ....those are to seeds that will make them spread.
