i have been in plaster now for coming up to seven weeks and two weeks in a tubigrip before that.(broken 5th metatarsal) will i be expected to just walk away when the cast comes off or will i have to use crutches for a little bit longer. i work on my feet all day and do heavy lifting and pulling so what about work as well as driving? any body been through this? although i have cabin fever from being stuck at home for nearly 9 weeks i don't want to go back to work before my foot is better as my place of work will not thank me as i am just an other number to them!

You'll find stairs very difficult...I found going downstairs almost impossibly painful for a long time.

It all depends on what your doctor sees when he takes an xray of your casted foot to assess bone union. If your bone has united sufficiently, there will be no need for you to use crutches anymore. Your doctor knows best.

i would suggest that you dont walk on it too much straight away, walk on it a bit with crutches first. as for work and heavy lifting, i wouldn't recomend havy lifting for a bit longer, you should be able to drive though

however, i am not a physio, i would as them or your doctor.
