When any person comes online and chats with me, I would like to know what is his/her IP address. What is the procedure to know this ? Is there any header file through which I can find out this ?

trace senders ip address .use the headers to find the earliest ip address (block of numbers in the form xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxx.).right click this number & copy .the following domain & paste the ip number into their "who is query".

What chat program are you using? Usually the case with IM programs is you're connected to the IM server, as are they, so if you try to use a packet sniffer or use Netstat, you usually can only see upto the point where you connect to the im server, not the actual user's computer.

use a sniffer and moniter ur ports. from that u can findout their ip address.

i doubt that's even possible only most experienced hackers and crackers can do that.
