Hi
I recently had a problem like this, I dont know if this is the same as the one your having, but the WEP key can either be 64 bit or 128 bit. If youhave a 64 bit WEP key on the router, but set it to 128 bit on the laptop, then this would cause the lack of connectivity.
It may also be that the DHCP on the router is not on, therfore the router is not issuing the IP address to the laptop. If you know the IP address of the router, then you could manually set the IP address of the laptop (in windows xp, go to my network places, on the left you have view network connections, when you click on that you should be able to see the wireless connection, right click on that and properties, in there double click on TCP IP, andthen specify the IP to be identical apart from the last number, when you press tab, the subnet mask will automatically be filled)
you should now be able to restart and connect
I hope this helps

seems you're using Straight Connetion, You need to use Cross Connection. In other word, You will find a Chekbox in your wireless network's property " Connect to other Laptop" Or something like that. Unless you are using or trying to connect to a Wireless Switch / Router / Modem. So use connection settings for Laptop to Laptop.
Thanks

don't really remember too well, but there are different types of WEP, something about key types. the best way to do it is to forget wep and go for WPA, if your equipment supports it. this allows for a simple password style key.

Forget WEP, you better off using WPA as its simple to use and more secure with todays WiFi technology

Your laptop could be too far away from the wireless router.
