The best places in my opinion are those with lots of snow - I like upper Midwest (Illinois, Wisconsin)(nicest people you'll ever meet) and the Northeast.
If you're looking for warmer weather, I'd vote for Arizona or New Mexico. They're beautiful, interesting, and have lots of retirees. Southern CA is so expensive.
I'd recommend staying away from the Southeast --- very hot summers, stifling humidity, and with a few exceptions the cities aren't too interesting. And the hurricanes too.

You must be RICH if your ONLY concern is the natural disasters in the U.S...
I have lived in "Earthquake Country" (California) for over 30 years. Sure, we get "The Big Ones" every now and then (like the 7.0 in 1989). But, you learn to deal with it, because this is one of the most desirable & beautiful places to live ON THE ENTIRE EARTH (especially here in the San Francisco/Bay Area ! Recently voted the #1 tourist spot !)
You've just gotta stay prepared...
No matter where you live on Earth, there will ALWAYS be something. Since you don't care for snow, don't move to the North... Some of the middle states get snow too (not to mention TORNADOES), so you're looking to live anywhere from California, across the bottom half of the country, all the way to Florida... (i.e., Nevada, Arizona, N. Mexico, Texas and the southern parts of the country...) But then you've got to worry about HURRICANES. AT LEAST with HURRICANES, you can SEE it coming off the ocean, and you can get the hell outta the way ! I just really hate Earthquakes because they are so darned UNPREDICTABLE! Over the past 5 years or so, a lot of people are selling their homes from high cost areas and moving to Nevada & Arizona... If you like 100+ degree heat in the summer, then you'd like it there...
I'm not sure if it snows in Oregon or not, but I understand it's a nice place to live, too, and just North of California. If you LOVE gloomy days and rain 2/3 of the year, then you'd absolutely LOVE Washington (state).
But the DISASTER that I feel I MUST warn you about in California is: THE EXTREMELY HIGH COST OF LIVING ! Here in the San Francisco/Bay Area, the MEDIAN price for a house is $700,000 (for a tiny 2 - 3 bedroom with LESS than 2,000 square feet! And that's NO JOKE!) My mother's condo (NOT a single family residence) is worth $600,000.. EASILY.. It's NOTHING to have million dollar properties in California...
I've known people who moved here, and then immediately packed up and left, due the the high cost of living...
So, I think you should check out Nevada, Arizona, N. Mexico and Texas (and Oregon if it doesn't snow...)
Good luck !

San Jose is between the most secure cities contained in the rustic, with that being suggested, its also the most expensive, yet in existence, you frequently pay more effective for larger high quality. The Bay section is paradise compared to everywhere else in us of a. Im from Florida, moved to Pennsylvania even as i became 22 and then to California for 5 years and Im decrease back in Florida. So it really is an independent evaluation because i'm not a Cali close by and that i comprehend different states and what they ought to furnish. California is the in basic terms position the position you are able to surf contained in the sea(in typical water, not freezing water) or ski contained in the snow interior an same state on an same day. Southern California is continually large in spite of the indisputable fact that the Bay section is amazingly the suitable. leisure and determining to purchase? Dont even get me began. you've San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose all interior of 40 minutes of one yet another, 3 important cities, plus you've all the scenic nature stuff too like 1/2 Moon Bay and Lake Tahoe and such issues as that.

I recommend San Diego. There may be an occasional earthquake but there haven't been any bad ones there in a long time. I think it is a great city! Lots of beautiful beaches and wonderful nature. Friendly people. Good job opportunities and a good place to raise a family.
