Transhumanism is a philosophy that humanity can, and should, strive to higher levels, both physically, mentally and socially. It encourages research into such areas as life extension, cryonics, nanotechnology, physical and mental enhancements, uploading human consciousness into computers and megascale engineering.

Transhumanism is the idea that what counts as "human" is expanding, or has expanded, past the parameters of persons in **** sapiens bodies. It is an idea that has been developed primarily by science and technology scholars, science-fiction writers, and radical feminists. Examples of trans-humans include entities like cyborgs (who are mixtures of biological bodies and technological prostheses), artificial intelligence, electronic consciousness (think of all those William Gibson novels), companion species (two species whose evolutionary and social histories have been intertwined to the point where neither can be justifiably extricated from the other, as in humans and dogs), and people with organ implants originally derived from other species. It can be argued that we are all already trans-humans, as our bodies rely on the cooperation of internal bacteria in order to function properly. This kind of thinking is also known as post-humanism.
