how long ago was your period? you need to ad more info. when did you have sex after your period? the day you took the test? the day before.

Pregnancy tests measure the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in your system. HCG is produced by the embryo and is first detectable in the mother's bloodstream as early as 6-8 days after conception.
Home pregnancy tests measure the level of HCG in urine. These tests cannot measure a level lower than 25, so they do not become accurate until the day you expect your period, at the earliest. A negative result before then is meaningless, since there would not be a high enough level of HCG to detect even if you were pregnant.
Blood pregnancy tests can measure any number from 0 on up. That's why they are more sensitive, and can become positive 6-8 days before your period is expected.

If you test too early, you can get a negative even if you're pregnant. Wait a few more days, if your period doesn't show, then test again.
Even if you're very regular, your period can be delayed once in awhile. If you're stressed you can cause your body to delay ovulation which delays your period.

don't buy the cheap tests...follow the directions and the results will tell you. I used clear blue easy and both told me I was with my kids. Best bet is go to your doctor for the real test that can tell U. The tests over the counter are not as good as what the doctor has to offer.

A negative pregnancy test doesn't always mean you're not pregnant. It can also mean that you've tested too soon... I would wait a week and try again.
You can also be late because of stress (ie: wanting to be pregnant or worrying about being pregnant or just regular life issues!)
