You shouldn't care so much about other people's opinions. If you like it, then listen to it. People who give you crap are just being ignorant and close-minded. Don't let them bother you!

Whoever tells you that is racist. A black person could sing those just as easily as the white people can and vice versa. People need to get over the color of people's skin. After reading this I looked at my music list and realized that I listen to black singer's songs even though I am white. Such as Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Boy's 2 Men and Mary J. Blige. I've never paid attention before and that shouldn't be a reason to stop listening to someone's songs. You should jusdge them on their sound and singing ability. I don't like rap artists but I think that is how I was raised not to listen to cuse words and degrading lyrics not who sings them.

I'm Hispanic and I listen to Country music. My black friends think that I'm weird and my Hispanic friends think that I'm trying to be white, but notice that I still call them my friends. True friends will like you what ever you listen to. Being 19 is tough what ever race you are. Identify who you are by being who you are, and disassociate yourself from those that criticize you for that. Any one that makes you feel like you aren't right for being you, isn't anyone you need to be around.
When I was young, the Hispanic people that I knew did the same thing to me. Guess what, those people are not people that I have ever felt a need to be around or even regard them as my friends.
Don't EVER let any one tell you that you can't be you!!!! If you do, you may as well return to the old days when women couldn't vote and African Americans couldn't sit in the front of the bus. You and only you have a say so in how you want your life to be. Listen to what ever you want I say and Scr3w the rest of them!!!

Just be yourself. The people who think music should be segregated are missing out on a lot of good stuff on both sides of the color line. Just think of all the black artists who sample "white" music and all the white artists who have "borrowed" from the black classic R&B artists. Your friends' attitude would make that kind of beauty a thing of the past. Enjoy what you want and in a few years the others may open their ears.

Why do you even care what others think? I hate it when people label music black/white, it's so narrow minded. as far as I'm concerned there is no black/white music. Music is music is music. Yes, some music is mostly done by white people and some music by mostly black people but that doesnt mean blacks should listen to black music and whites should listen to white music. I listen to anything that's good. So let's get over it there's better things to worry about.

white or black you just have bad taste...........just kidding.
since the 1900's it's been accepted for white folk to listen to "black music" whether it was robert johnson, leadbelly, chuck berry, temptations, smokey, parliment, or hip hop in general. but for some reason black folks never got hung up on white music.... reason. white people just rip off black music, make bland and less innovative. don't get me wrong white folks do make some good music, but most of the time it's just copycatted. i'm a white guy by the way.
jessie, by the way, jimi got his start playing with the isley brothers, a black band. jimi liked cream, but again, they were just ripping off albert king and other black artists. jimi wasn't playing white, eric clapton and jack bruce were playing black music. jimi had many hits aside from watchtower, but not hits that billboard magazine count as hits. and plus when his contract ran out with the experience, what did jimi do??? fire the 2 white guys that were keeping him down , and hire some folks with soul and started the band of gypsys

Your friends seem to be judging your music and you by race.... I think you should tell them what a very smart man named Dr. Martin Luther King said....Judge someone not by there color but by the content of their character...Music is not a black or white or orange or purple thing...Its a Human Being Thing and is created by human beings to be enjoyed by human beings of all races in all of its vast and varied tastes and flavors...So they who tell you that you are this or call you that have closed minds and what ever you do don't let them close yours...For there minds will be forever trapped never to venture forth and never to know the joys of being musically diverse...They will only one day maybe awake to late in life to find that they have truly only enjoyed so little when they could have been enjoying all along so very very much more.

has it really gotten to the point of labeling music "white"?

you listen to what you want to listen to and tell people who are giving you a hard time to pound sand! if at 19 you start letting other people's opinions of you influence your choices you'll never learn to be yourself.

you don't have to give up the music you like to conform, or make people like you. if that's what it takes then they like you for the wrong reasons. if it's your friends giving you a hard time, then let them know they're being schmucks - most friends will stop harassing you (often they don't realize how much it is upsetting you), and if they don't - then do you really want them around?

Look sweetheart this world is made up of individuals and to deny yourself of who you are is just plain wrong. And Music is music for all listeners to appreciate or not. Hip Hop isn't any more black then country is white. Did you know 70% of all hip hop cd's are purchased by middle class to uppermiddleclass suburbia? Now does that make it white music.....hell no!! Be like Digital Underground and Do What ya like feel what ya like listen to what you like and whoever don't like tell em shut up punk my BIG CUZZO DURTY G said Its all good baby.....Ya Heard!

Please try not to worry what narrow people brainwashed by the mass media tell you what is and isn't. Most people have their "opinions" spoon fed to them by focus groups and corporate marketing agencies.
Music is universal and if you've found something you like in music, embrace it. Never be afraid to be you. If others judge you, its only because their insecure.
Our society is based on fear. "Fear of death, aids, bad breath, paying too much for car insurance, terror ect, ect. Never be afraid to seek knowledge, get differing opinions and weigh them using compassion, reason and logic. You can't go wrong.
