It is impossible to transfer entire content of a DVD to a CD as is. The former has a maximum capacity of 4.7 GB while the latter can only accommodate 700 MB.

But if you want to copy the contents of a DVD to a CD in a different format. You may consider doing the following:

For Data: Use a file compression software (i.e. pkware) to compress your data file before writing it to DVD-R (this is not a guarantee that you can fit it to one CD but at least it will lessen the required CD's that you will need.

For Audio/Video: Converting your home made video/audio to a lower format would decrease the file size. (of course the quality would decrease as well)

You dont its illegal! Lol jk. It depends on what kind of computer you have. If you have windows you use windows media player that has a dvd buner. Under the options for burning a data cd theres an option to burn a dvd and you just act like you're burning a cd with one track. But like i said it depends on the system your using so this might be completely useless =)
