Let me know the reason why u would install a Linux system.

Several reasons.
First, it's almost no cost.
It's stable, scalable, less greedy of resources compared to its competitors, highly customizable in any part, and last but not least, it's more secure.
Today there is also a wide choice of applications to do everything, from office , to graphics and audio/video and they are all free software.

1) As I've UNIX basic applications in our syllabus, so I had to install it, besides Windows
2) Windows is a single-user system, Linux is a multi-user system. Linux is better platform for enterprise databases, ISPs, Web-servers & electronic commerce
3) Linux offers 2 of the best text-editors: vi & emacs
4) Complex text-manipulation problems are solved in Linux by using tools in combination. Add the shell-programming features 'n u can at once develop non-interactive applications -- 'n even schedule them to run at specific times.
5) Only 2 simple entities support Linux OS : files & processes
6) Linux is a multi-tasking system, division of task is simply handled by : Kernel (core of OS) & Shell (command-interpreter)
7) Programming facilities like : u don't have to bother about loading Turbo C++ IDE, since it has built-in gcc-compiler that helps to compile 'n execute programs
8) GUI (Graphical User Interface) facilities .........

For more than one reason. I can install a Linux system if I want to avoid purchasing expensive liscences. Also if I want to use it as a server for hosting, it is more stable and secure than Windows Systems.

On the down side

Because :
- it is far less expansive than any MS systems.
- it is safer regarding viruses attacks
- you want to know what it looks like
- it is easy to install
