you do not hve to replace the entire lot of compost in your containers, once every year, idealy spring u should removed about 3 inches layer of old compost and replace it with fresh compost with a little granualr feed mixed with it.

It's a good ideal to empty the containers each year. Wash out the pots with a little bleach to kill what's bugging them. The plants eat up the nutrients pretty quick. Then fertilize ever couple of months with a slow release fertilizer.

Repot your plants when you see roots emerging from the bottom of the pot. spring is ideal, but it can be done any time. Put 2 to 3 inches of dead leaves in the bottom of the container, soil, plant, soil. Leaves are light weight, prevent dirt from escaping and provide organic material for the plant.
