History books are written by the victors, not the victims (usually they are dead). Its an ugly truth that this great land was and is an object of great value, what has value is coveted by those that do not possess it. So now the holdings are those that took it. It's interesting to me to watch who is taking things right now and right in front of us that we do not see as of value but some others do. Pay attention to who takes your order next time you go to a fast food place.

The idea that winners write history is simplistic.

While true in most cases, winners write history for themselves, for their own consumption. And the losers, for the most part, maintain their own history.

See: Debate about the usage of the Atomic Bomb and opinion in the United States v. Japan.

Ideas prevalent Japanese history basically do not accept that the Atomic Bomb was justified, while those prevalent U.S. history accept that it was.

Anyway, to the matter at hand: Why dont these massacres show up? In many they do, or they make overtures towards it by talking about the hardships endured by Chinese Migrants or foreign migrants in general. Although it may be true that they dont use the word 'massacre', such emotionally laden terms are usually avoided as using the word itself can cause controversy.

Controversy is NOT well placed in text books, it is well placed in books of specialized topics. You are missing the point of History books: They are meant to generate a general over-all look at a period of time. More specificially they look at the cultural and social features and mentalite prevalent during it. As such, they cant identify every detail in depth, this is left for specialized books on the specific topic that really are meant to argue that something happened.
