you question can go so many ways. the basics, emo is short for emotion. coming mainly from some bands in the 90's that put a lot of emotion into their singing and song writing styles. emo now has become the punik/goth trend you se today. mainly used to describe music such as dashoboard, taking back sunday, brand new, hawthorne heights things like that. it is also used to describe a fashion. where guys have black hair in their face, tight womens jeans, tight form fitting band t-shirts. girls with short spiky hair, almost hippie like shirts without the tie dye, bands shirts and what not. emo is also used to describe a form of depression. when called emo it can mean that you cry a lot, are always depressed, your father hates you, you think the world has it out for you and you slit your wrists. those are the basics of emo, hope i helped

Emo is short for emotion/emotional. If a person is emo it does NOT mean that they self harm, listen to a certain music, have a certain style, and it does not mean that they have to be depressed all the time. That is what I like to call a stereotype and after awhile it stops being offensive and starts getting annoying. If you are emo you are simply an emotional person. And a majority of the time (at least with ppl I know that consider themselves emo and myself) it means you are over emotional not necessarily in a bad way. I don't know if this makes a whole lot of sense because I'm really bad at explanations but thats my answer xD

Emo is by definition a genre of music that is a shortened term for emocore or emotional hardcore and some of the bands include Panic! at the disco, Fall out boy, Black veil brides, Pierce the veil. Emo has developed over the years to be a sub-culture that is something like punk merged with gothic but it's own thing. Emo's usually wear band t-shirts, skinny jeans and have large side-fringes in both genders. EMO PEOPLE ARE NOT SATANISTS AND EMO PEOPLE ARE NOT DEPRESSED.

I'm emo/goth sure there's a change and I'm a mixture of each... My dad calls me emish, I'm looking forward to that to trap on haha... Emos are excellent the kind rocks at the side of the style in track and absolutely emo is created by means of tough lives or pasts nevertheless, this does not imply we're constantly unhappy and depressed we do smile!!

Emo means emotionally unstable most people tend to relate emos to self harm and suicide I disagree emo is a sort of style trend that came out in the mid late 90s into the 2000s and is still going on today it involves rock/punk pop bands (paramore, fall out boy, siosin) but most songs canbe heavier than others the clothing tends to be black with band tshirt black hair layered and fringe covering their eyes not all dress like that but thata an example of what "phase" I went through

anyone who wants to know what emo is, must google emotive hardcore.please, its not emotional/emotion. its a diverse kind of music and what many ppl have been referring to as emo here is actually scene. so yea....emo's not a bad thing....and thats coming from a metalhead.

emo is nothing lyke thye have explained it.
Evem though labels are bad...people label me emo and scene all the time.
Emo is painting your face and wear dark makeup under the eyes. that would be refering to (gothic).
emo is a sort of loving the music you listen to. being more a bit shy, dressing in layered clothes and bright colors.
have a shorter hair cut that is dyed dark.
Emos are not cutters, so a few people have some depression issues...not everybody that is emo does. and we arent depressed.
so there you have it my way of explaining to you what emo is.:]
