A number of people over the years have remarked on the contradiction between Hitler's appearance, as well as that of most of the other top Nazi leaders, and the Aryan ideal. Of all the top Nazis, the one closest to the ideal would probably be Reinhard Heydrich, Himmler's deputy and the architect of the Final Solution to the "Jewish Question."

There probably is no way to really explain this contradiction, except to say that Hitler recognized that the true Aryan ideal did not yet exist, but was something to which to aspire and toward which to work with the utmost vigor.

As an interesting sidelight to this question, there was a joke that made the rounds at the time -- very, very quietly -- that addressed this issue. The true Aryan man, so the joke goes, is tall like Hitler (who was of middling height), blonde like Himmler (who had dark hair and eyes), lithe like Goering (who was very fat), and athletic like Goebbels (who was short, skinny, and had a club foot).

A lot of answers here, but not a lot of thought. Let me take a stab at it.

Hitler's idea of a perfect Germany included an idea of the Aryan Race. Many people think that Aryan Race restricts you to blonde hair and blue eyes. That's not true at all. It is true that Hitler would have loved to see thousands of blonde haired, blue eyed supporters, but it is naive to think that Hitler would toute the blonde and blue Aryan race while he himself had dark hair. It is far more plausible, in my opinion, to say that the IDEAL Aryan had those qualities in Hitler's IDEAL vision. You have to remember that Hitler's end result - what he hoped to achieve with the Third Reich - did not include him. He expected the Nazi State to last for 1,000 years or more. He expected the Fourth Reich to come in and he expected that eventually, once all the impure races were sent somewhere else, the Aryan Race would eventually become mostly blonde and blue. It would be in your interest to watch Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will to better understand what Hitler thought Germany should be like.

Hitler was dark haired and he did have dark eyes. And he pushed the blonde hair blue eyed envelope because in Germany many non-Jewish, and non-gypsy people who felt lost in a crumbling society had blue eyes or blonde hair or both. Also it was an occult influenced, Hitler endorsed, pro German way of looking at the world. Germans were told (by dark haired hitler) that the blonde blue eyed Aryan race was the most evolved and would one day rule the world (occult influence.)
Now think about it, if he was one of the main people influencing the German population (or at least the ones that allowed him to gain and maintain power) would he really need to look like the sheep he was seducing???
Also it must be mentioned that the fascist dictator was... a fascist dictator, what he said went (even if he wasn't perfect)
maybe the Aryans thought that if a dark haired brown eyed man was going to give them the world, he need not look a certain way.

Hitler was a strong misguided christian in look out for an Ideology and to play with German emotions of division and rule. A strong megalomaniac. He was anti Semitic but the Jews , Germans , Roma ,Slavs , gays , lesbians, women and children, the pagans, the gypsies he persecuted were more Aryan (Blondie or red heads, blue ,green,Grey eyed)in blood and culture than Semitic christian as Hitler. He was in charge. He decided who was and who wasn't Aryan. Also, he encouraged the ideal to procreate. He did not have any children. So, he must have known that even though he was Aryan (lol) he did not have any kids.
