Handheld video games, laptop, game books (like Suduko, word finds, etc), books, decks of cards, etc. If they are into crafts, bring something they can make to keep them occupied.

I was in the hospital for a week when i was 17, and the nurses were able to bring in a VCR (back before DVD players) and my parents brought me movies every night to watch. Ask at the nurses station and see about bringing in a movie.

My son is set to go in for surgery on Nov. 9th. He will be in there for at least 4 day, so we have checkers, uno cards, his psp, ipod and our portable dvd player. I am also packing snacks and some capri suns in case he gets hungry in between meals. I am not sure why or how long you are going to be in the hospital but I hope these ideas help you. I also wish you a speedy recovery.

What do you as a young woman like to do? Watch movies, read, visit friends, etc. There is not much to do at a hospital for anyone unless they plan ahead and bring stuff with them.
