Because of my religion, we didn't celebrate Halloween. So we'd pretend we weren't home. And one little boy pushed bits of shredded paper through the letterbox. Which I thought was quite sweet. It wasn't too messy.
I almost ran after him and gave him a sweetie.

What about writing anti-thank you notes to people. "Sorry that you didn't feel that you could participate in this holiday, the trick is on you because you missed my great costume!"
You could also write notes for people that are out "sorry that you missed my great costume and didn't get to give me a treat, be sure to be in next year and I'll make an extra special effort especially for you.

Most people don't answer because they don't have treats. Ask him to push a sweet through the letterbox with a Happy Halloween note. It wouldn't annoy anyone but will make them feel guilty!

Why not go round with the kid GIVING OUT sweets, that will surprise the people you visit & show that you are thinking of them.

you can **** on plastic rap , freeze it and pass it off as chocolate. It'll be a nutty/corny surprise they wont soon forget.
