Clinton was a "moderate" who bombed Serbian civilians. He should be tried for war crimes.

Ahhh... a person after my own heart.
Your despair is quite appropriate. America seems to have passed its apex and is now on borrowed time. Corrupt and inept leadership since the mid-60s has certainly been a factor in that.
However, the problem is the system itself. Clinton was an anomaly. Though immoral and corrupt to a point that we only began to realize how much so until after he left office and seemingly the entire world feel apart. The difference between Clinton and Bush is the fact that Clinton was corrupt, but the people prospered because of it. With Bush... 'nough said.
The two parties have different rules when it comes to getting on the ballot then third parties. The Primaries are closed to the general public and the most extreme of the parties elect the nominee. Getting a moderate out of a party primary is impossible and the two parties like it that way.
As long as America allows these two parties to reign unchecked, we shall all be witness to the slide and eventual destruction of the United States.

I wish your question were re-phrased as..."Is the political system completely hopeless?
It's a two party system, and each are very similar now.
The system works because it goes on and on with nobody coming along to make radical change.
It works marvelously because it's fed by big money interests.
Once you understand the way the system works, then you will see how miniscule your place is within the system.
You go and vote and feel you've done your patriotic duty.
That's where it ends for you, and that's the problem.
Instead, that's where it should begin for you, and you should be in constant touch with that person you helped get into public office, be they democrat or republican.
Both political parties are subjected to big donations that influence the way they vote in Congress.
Those donations usually come from Corporate interests, and are known as soft money or P.A.C. money contributions.
Another angle of this that few seem to comprehend is that the political opponent who loses an election can go on and make a fortune in either writing books, making speeches or working for a corporation. They have become known through their name recognition. In many situations, the loser in the political contest goes on and makes more money than the winner does.
Also, when they retire, they make a fortune alone with just one book.
Bill Clinton's "My Life" must have generated for him over ten million dollars.
That's how the system works. The gullible public always gets the shaft.

The system is what needs fixing, but the once in position to fix it are the republicans and the democrats. Both live off the money they receive by the corporations. They are nothing but money whores. BOTH sides of the aisles.
To fix the system there should be some changes, such as:
No political party is allowed to receive ANY contributions from corporations.
No political party is allowed to receive donations larger than $25, and those amounts shouldn't be tax deductable. Let's see where the true heart of the populace lies.
For campaigning political parties receive a fixed amount of cash from the government and that is what they have to live on. No more fund raisers, etc.
Politicians shouldn't be allowed to receive any funds from anyone else but the government after they retire. That would stop ANY lobbying after they "lost" their cushy seats in the house.
Those changes would already be a good start.

Nothing significant will change until ppl vote out the incumbents. Also the Fair Tax and term limits must be passed.
And it was Bill Clinton's moderation that allowed the terrorists to gain strength.

I don`t know about anyone else, but i find it impossibe to relate to any politician who has a vast personal fortune, which, lets face they all have. How can a politician represent me when he/she has no f*cking idea what-so-ever of what it`s like to really struggle through life. It`s hard for normal people to get on in this world, we all know this. I don`t believe for one second that the Kerry`s, Clinton`s, Bush`s or whoever can understand the needs of the common man, and then do something to improve their quality of life. I can`tthink of a single thing any politician has done in the past 15 years that has really helped improve the way i live. We elect these people and they give us nothing but war. The system stinks to high heaven. Take Bush for example, what is his motivation? To help you and i? I see no evidence of it. do you? They don`t represent me, they are in it for the money corporation`s throw at them. It`s all bull.

Think of it this way...you are only having to look back to the previous president to find a thoughtful moderate, and before he ran for president, no one even knew who he was.
I think you should take a look at Warner out of Virginia. He's going to come out of nowhere and take the Democratic nomination.
