Usually these come from an area being warm and damp for a prolonged period of time. It is caused by a type of yeast. You can get rid of it with creams and ointments (depending on the location), or by letting the area 'air out' and keeping it cool and dry. You can prevent them by using something to prevent moisture build-up (like baby powder).
If you have irritation 'down there', you should check with a doctor first before trying any treatment just in case it is not thrush or jock itch. You wouldn't want an STD or an STI to go untreated!

This is a communicable disease.
You can also get it if your undies are dirty (ewr!)
Or if your skin is always wet or having moist (as far as I can remember)
Try using topical ointments for it...
There are over the counter meds for that...
