In high school i ditched school all the time yet did so in a smart manner knowing when tests would arrive and graduated with a 3.3 gpa although sophmore year it was as high as a 3.8

i am in community college with high hopes of transferring to USC for the fall 2007 and have progressed in my study and school habits.

I am a full time, 5 classes, 18 units student. I study and pay attention to class but always wait till the last minute before a midterm to really study. I manage to pass by and get an A or B but its those times when i lose sleep and run on energy drinks. I also just joined some clubs at school and wanted to know...what are some things that i can develop to become a better college student?

I want a 4.0gpa if possible! What little things make a successful college student?

Daily Planner? Uncluttered Work Space? Studying at school library?

Just please, throw in your little tips that have gotten you or are getting you through college smoothly.

Thank you.

Hi,
I found it best if I read the text materials before the lecture. That way the lecture was an explanation of something I already knew something about. It helped a lot. It also meant that if there was something that I didn't quite 'get', I would be able to ask an intelligent question about the subject in class.

Secondly, I found that going to see the instructor when something doesn't make sense (right away, before getting confused) helps to improve grades.

Finally, I found that I performed best on an exam if I did not study withing 24 hours of the test, it takes some planning, and a bit of getting used to, but it makes a huge difference. If you need to, you could always pretend that the test is two days early.

Oh, and always do the 'suggested' homework, even if it isn't for marks - 9 times out of 10 it turns up on the exams!

Good luck.

my roomie is a straigh A junior in college student. Both of us take al upper division and manage to do really well in school. The key to being a good student is learning how to study. Depending on the class at hand you either can or you can't procrastinate. I also learned that it doesn't help to half *** your studying, it works best if for the test you try to remember everything possible and know it well! History for example, when you have an essay test about events in time, it helps to have those events memorized. don't relie on bsing your way through the essay. It is all about the facts and events you put in your essay that is going to get you the A. Also state the names of events and things don't just describe them because some professors don't actually read your papers they just look for those key words so make sure your papers have them. If it is a for a class like math, you are going to have to keep up with it everyday to make sure you understand how to do the problems and if you can't than you need to go your professor's office hours so they can explain it to you. Just know your stuff and know it well! One thing my roommate does is she creates a study guide. She actually makes her own study guide with questions for herself of all the things she might get tested on. And for multiple choice test, this is very effective. Try this out and good luck.

Time management is key to getting good grades. Find a place where you can study undisturbed (that might be the library, a local bookstore, or home). If you get decent grades despite putting little effort into your studies, then you have the aptitude to do better. Skimping on sleep is not the answer. Maybe cut some of your extra curricular activities so you have more time to devote to your studies. Also examine your methods of study to maximize your retention level and productivity.

Very important bc u can receive grants and scholarships to pay for college. Take it from me And keep it up. When you find a job they ask you to send in your transcript and if it's low they might not hire you. Keep it up!!!! It will pay off in the end
