I had several people tell me that East Indians don't pay taxes.... Why is this?

Don't pay taxes on there businesses.

Many small businesses can be set up that not only don't make enough to pay tax but can reduce your taxes by being expenses. These tax breaks are available to anybody. Your business must have a reasonable likely hood of being profitable in five years. This is why so many people started home businesses in the 80's. These benefits are being eliminated very quickly. You should have an accountant explain it. Things like up to 1/4 of your house might be written of as a home business office, part of your fuel expenses, your car and even your kid getting paid to do chores.
Not just East Indians!!! For You Too, do it!!!
If you are making 100K salary you are paying the max in income tax. That same income as a self employed consultant with a home office gets you about 1/2 of your taxes back.
Check With a local Chartered Accountant

Yeah right ! I know that East Indians , atleast those that work in the Bay Area pay some of the highest taxes around .Can you think of one reason why the IRS would let people who have a social security number and who are legally employed on high payscales, get away without paying taxes ???

That's totally not true - East Indians do pay their taxes. Whoever told you this was trying to get you to turn against them...

If they don't have income or their income is too low, there is no need to pay tax (in Canada). Or possibly they are avoiding tax in some way?
