With reference to the above question: If I have a DSL or Cable high speed service then how many phone lines can be used with it and does the speed support then for VOIP?
If so why can't we use it with the dial-up(56Kbps)?

VOIP works with the digitized signals which means it works only when the Internet is working and if the net is down then the phone service does not work and requires a High Speed service like the DSL or Cable.
Yes, we can use it multiple phone line and the ISP must support this feature.
Mostly you need a good speed to use the VOIP service without any issue, if you use with a networking of multiple computes then the speed will be shared and will get down causing call drops or static on the phone.
So we should maintain bandwidth for its use which is why cable or DSL works better with it, where as with the dial-up and its speed with a maximum of 56Kbps over a period of time does not support the VOIP.

You need DSL to use VOIP. Check with a provider for their minimum requirements. One national service is Vonage. This is not dial-up, so the speed would be faster than 56k

I run VOIP through a system named "Engin"
It requires ADSL. 256 speed is the slowest to operate on.I am running 612 speed and run 3 phones on this system.
The computer does NOT required to be on.
I have seperate phone numbers and can use any phone on the market.
The price is cheap any phone call cost 10.cents a call,no connection fees no time limit.
can be used while using the computer, and while I am using my main land line it is interpendent to the main phone.
I save 65% on my phone costs since changing to Engin system 15 months ago.hope this helps you good luck Waltz.
PS Using Engin you also get another phone number ( s )
