What goes through the endomembrane system? What is the product?

The nucleus, ER, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, vacuoles, and the plasma membrane are connected because of the endomembrane system but why and how?

The endomembrane system exists in order to synthesize and transport proteins and lipids. It also breaks down other molecules and can store the products prior to transport.
