Intelligence concerns those native abilities that have been enhanced by learning/practice. Smart usually refers to having developed abilities and knowledge above the average.

There is no real difference in everyday speach, but intelligence is measurable (IQ tests) and being smart is a matter of opinion.

An intellegent person who passes his exams without studying is not smart at all, but the smart person who studies and passes has made anintellegent choice LOL!!!

intelligent= ability to learn
smart= thinking you know something
monkeys are intelligent , people are smart.
dolphins are inteligent, humans aren't
intelligent creatures learn, people just make the same mistakes time after time, after time ad finitum

You can define and re-define both to make them have the same or different denotations. The connotations are different and depend on the context in which the word are used
